New Hanover County
One of Wilmington’s greatest resources is its location nestled between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. An enduring relationship with the water is interwoven through the city’s history, which resulted in Wilmington being the largest city in North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century. The city’s colonial history began with explorations through Frying Pan Shoals and up the Cape Fear River in 1524, and its commerce was tied to the sea. Just as colonists relied on the water for transportation of goods to build the region, so does 21st -century Wilmington rely on it to attract visitors, import and export materials from and to the world through the N.C. State Ports, and summon newcomers who choose to relocate and establish businesses here.

Brunswick County
Tucked away along North Carolina’s southernmost stretch of coastline, the Brunswick Islands claim over 45 miles of tranquil sand and surf for their own. It’s the beach-going experience you remember as a child, and surely beaches like that exist only in faded snapshots and grainy home movies. Well, you’re in for a pleasant surprise.

Name your escape, and you'll find it on these serene islands in the northernmost reaches of the subtropical climate. Sailing, shelling, nature watching or beachcombing all come to mind. Surf and deep-sea fishing in the Gulf Stream beckon the more ambitious. Enjoy the fresh catch of the day. Tee off year round on one of more than 35 championship golf courses, the pride of North Carolina’s "Golf Coast." Maybe spend your day strolling the streets or shopping in our charming port towns. After coasting with us, you'll forever wonder how something so unspoiled can have the opposite effect on you.

Pender County
Pender County was established in 1875 and named for Confederate Army General William D. Pender. The county seat, Burgaw, combines the old and the new that typifies this Southern county. New, contemporary homes and buildings are juxtaposed with 18th and 19th century architecture. Within Burgaw are banking and shopping facilities, municipal and county government offices, a hospital, and a satellite campus of Cape Fear Community College. Ranked as the fastest growing county in North Carolina, Pender County has grown 15 percent since 1990. Other agricultural products, which still form a substantial portion of the county's economic base, include sweet potatoes, strawberries, tobacco, soybeans, peanuts, corn and grapes. Sod farms and nurseries are also evident in areas of the county. Pender County includes Topsail Island, one of North Carolina's prized beaches. Located in the Coastal Plains section of the state, Pender's countryside is also enhanced by streams and brooks, natural lakes and ponds.
