New Hanover County is one NC’s TOP 6 SCHOOL DISTRICTS and RANKED 20th IN THE NATION for number of teachers with National Board Certification. In 2014, US News Today ranked Hoggard High School as the 11th BEST HIGH SCHOOL IN NC. Student performance in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties continue to vie favorably with other state and national test scores. New Hanover County currently offers two STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) -based schools and a Brunswick County middle school has implemented a similar program to include robotics and aerospace.

University of North Carolina at Wilmington – A leading contributor to the long-term economic, educational, environmental, and cultural development of our local community and Southeastern NC; UNC-W has consistently been recognized by several national publications. Degree programs are offered in the Arts and Sciences, Health and Human Services, Business, and Education– with its forte in marine sciences, film studies and creative writing. The Master in Fine Arts in creative writing has become one of the most venerated on the East Coast –with Guggenheim fellow and internationally acclaimed fiction writer Clyde Edgerton as one of the department’s professors. Enrollment is over 12,000 for undergraduates and almost 1500 graduate students.
Cape Fear Community College – Another leading economic development partner in the area, CFCC enrolls over 30,000 students and is 5th largest community college in state. The main campus is centrally located in Downtown Wilmington and its North Campus is situated near Hampstead. A range of specialized technical degree and continuing education programs are offered; in addition, a 2-year transfer degree is available to continue at a 4-year institution. Training partnerships with larger businesses and industries such as Verizon Wireless and GE Hitachi have provided customized employee training opportunities. In 2013, the graduate placement rate was 98%.
